Regarding the missing 670C driver in Vista, I found that the 640C driver available from Microsoft Vista works correctly. The issue, instead, is still open for the Deskjet 560C. The 500C driver in Vista does not allow for printing black; I mean, instead of black out of the black cartridge, I have a brown color (the color cartridge is used instead of the black for printing text).
I assume this is because the deskjet 500C has only the color cartridge, while the Deskjet 550C and 560C have two cartridges, black and color. Any futher suggestion on how to fully use a Deskjet 560C with Vista? Thank You in advance. I found the solution to run the HP Deskjet 560C under Vista and finally get black out of the black cartridge instead of out of the color cartridge, seee above - I post here the solution because it seems to me that it could work for similar HP missing printers too!!! 1) Add a new printer in Vista and ask for external driver n CD 2) Put Windows XP Installation CD-Rom and click on NTPRINT.INF file which is in the I386 directory in the CD 3) Select HP 560C. BINGO, it works! I wonder if it works for all other missing HP printers in Vista!

Chris -- Yes, I found that my HP6122 showed up as an unknown device when I selected show hidden devices. So I uninstalled it, then restarted my PC and verifyed that is was absent from the device list, again selecting show hidden devices. Next, with my printer NOT connected to my PC, I followed the instructions to the letter on installing the substitute printer driver, which in my case is a deskjet 990c.
However, as in past attempts, the HP990c is not listed among the available HP printer drivers. I combed through the list many times to verify it was not listed. I don't understand why.
Perhaps HP has removed it? Perhaps there is another available printer driver that will work with my 6122? Thanks, Steve. I have 6127 printer.
The same problems. Why hp cannot deliver Windows 7 64bit driver for 990c? Finaly I downloaded driver from Windows Update Printers and devices -> Add a printer -> (.) Then when you get to the device list click on 'Windows Update' and be very patient. The only thing you should do now is to select 990c from the list. Anyway you can write to me if you know what is the name of the driver file and I'll send it to you. *** Email address is removed for privacy *** My printer is working correctly now:).
